Altered photo frame

I altered a children's board book and made it into a photo frame for a friends daughter. I have made several of these for baby gifts. I chose the theme "Boys life" and used embellishments from the elements from the poem that I wrote. I left the frame page unattached so they may choose a photo to add. I have double sided foam tape on the back of the frame so it will seal together when the photo is in place. The front and back cover has handmade paper that was decoupaged and distressed with Ranger color wash.

Freshwater pearl station necklace and bracelet

I bought these pearls earlier this year and couldn't decide how I wanted to string them. I finally decided to make this design that is a modern, updated pearl necklace verses the classic strand of pearls. Merry Christmas.

I attended another terrific art class done at my local paper arts store. This time Lisa, the designer, came up with a altered canvas, Halloween style. The unusual thing about this canvas is that we altered the back side of the canvas instead of the front which makes a
self frame for your project. That concept was so foreign to me since I am a painter I would have never considered turning it around. Duh.

Halloween Configuration Box

I had some fun today. I took a class at my local paper arts store to make this Halloween box. Lisa, the designer did a frightfully awesome job! Of course I added my own personal touch to truly make it my own. I added one of my beaded spiders, suspended from her web down one side, the paper clay skull, and a few other small touches. Down the middle is the words "Creepy" in black which makes it hard to see. Anyway it was such fun to do, I absolutely LOVE it!

Well, here they are as promised. It took me forever it seems, to get these done. Mostly from life getting in the way. When I get on a roll, I could sit and create all week! I did a varity of mediums. All are the old "cut and paste", even the photoshop and stamped ones. I like the deminsion. And I added at least one or more deminsional embellishments. (some are on the back) Would like to know what you think!

Taste of Halloween

I love Halloween, and I can't wait to start creating all the Halloween art. When it comes to doing my kind of Halloween art, my tastes runs a little gothic/macabre/dark. I created these Halloween ATC's using photoshop and cut chipboard that I painted to look like a gothic archway in two of them. The banners are in Latin, which translates to mourning the dead. Different settings two are in a grave yard, and one in a gothic church. (love the perspective in the floor tiles) I still love the demension of cut and pasted projects, so even though I photoshoped the backgrounds, I still cut out elements and "popped" them out using small foam squares. Stay tuned as more are sure to come. Happy creating.

Embellished print

One of the things I like to do is to take a picture/print and embellish it with dimensional bits and bobs. I purchased this print a few years ago from the artist CP Wyat. She does beautiful paintings of mermaids. I loved this one, and had to have it. Although I do not have her talent and I did not change her painting, I did add some glitter, microbeads, faux pearls and real shells. I love everything glitzy/shiny and blingy, and it translate itself alot in my art. (and others art as well)

Copper etched and image transfer bracelet

Last Friday I took a class at my local arts store to make this beautiful bracelet.
The guest artist, Joni Russel from Artful Illusions (Mrs Olearys in Wichita KS) taught us the basics in copper etching, (which I must say, is involved using chemicals etc) and then how to transfer images onto metal. She had several different themes to choose from for your bracelet. Of course I immediately went for the beach/sea theme. The brass charms were patinaed, again using chemicals and attached here and there with other embellishments to compliment and complete your bracelet. I would like to do more of these, but a lot of new equipment/tools are involved, so I will just have to do that a bit at a time. Just what I need....more stuff

aminal inspired jewelry

I bought a leopard print jacket and wanted some jewelry to complete the look. I found some while shopping, but didn't want to pay that price. So naturally, I made one.! This one is long, about 72 inches, and I can double or triple it around my neck, depending on what I am wearing underneath my jacket. Above is some matching earrings.

Mixed media on canvas

I was inspired to make this mm collage while visiting one of the fellow blogger I follow. She makes beautiful ATC's and recently made some using a mermaid/sea theme. (see artfullymusing.blogspot.com). I used a underwater photograph for the background and photoshoped the mermaid onto it. After printing, I used a image transfer technique to transfer thewhole thing to the canvas. I painted over some of the areas with acrylic paint to hide little imperfections in the transfer. Then embellished with some dimensional embellishments. This will go to a friend as one of her birthday gifts.

Faux porcelain flower box

I was visiting one of the blogs I follow and she had bought the book, "Delight in the Details", by Lisa M Peace. It was chalked full of fun ideas to make your own embellishments and one of them contained how to make faux porcelain flowers. She used this idea to make her mother a flower box for Mothers day. So I went on a hunt and found a copy for myself. The author of the book used a product called petal porcelain (which is not available on the market anymore, yes, I searched and searched) so the blogger used stiffy to to make her silk flowers stiff and then used a glossing spray to make them shine. I didn't have the stiffy (I have used it before and it does work well) but I did have a product called Triple Thick which is a brush on gloss glaze. sorta like glossy accents, but in a big tub. I had some pretty paper flowers and thought I would give it a try! Well, I thought the results were great. I dipped the flowers into the glaze for a even all over coat and let them dry. Not only are they stiff but have a brilliant glossy shine that does look like porcelain. So here is my creation, adorned with some vintage jewelry pieces. Enjoy.

Good morning friends, I have mentioned that I really love the Graphic45 papers. I used their "Once Upon a Springtime" themed papers to create this little fairy garden book. The actual chipboard book is from Alpha Stamps, can't remember the company who makes it.(it was sometime ago that I purchased it and my memory is not what it use to be) I made some of the vignettes 3_D (used dimensional foam tape and 3 layers one on top of the other, although it is not appreciated in the photos very well) Hope you enjoy!

Wired Bird's nest

Been in a jewelry making mood. I have had this thought to make
a sweet little wired birds' nest necklace for sometime. I have made
these wired bird's nest before, but I wanted a simple little necklace

I have not posted in a little while, been busy trying to complete all the Halloween swaps I am participating in. Took a few moments to put together my Halloween necklace that I have been collecting "charms" for. Some of which were made by me, ie: the Skelly bead, the evil eye bead, and the Tim Holtz charms. Some of the metal type charms I ordered from Etsy. Great place for all kinds of supplies for your art-or buy it already made! The numbers and the raven came from Michael's a charm company called "Urban chic". I love all those charms of which I dropped a few $ to make another funky necklace from....someday. But for now it's all about Halloween. Are you ready???

Skull beads and Jack-o-lantern box

Do you know how one thing leads to another? Well, that's what happened to me when I started making skull beads for the Halloween necklace. So, I had to make more; bigger ones, smaller one's, even pumpkin ones. Then I wanted to try and make a large Jack-o-lantern for this little box I bought and painted. I haven't worked with polymer clay much, and don't have much skill at sculpting, but practice does make perfect as they say. Well not exactly perfect as I found out, I learned a few things going through this process. For instance, when making a round object to be glued onto a flat surface, make the bottom flat! My Jack-o-lantern sits a little askew, but it is securely glued.

AAJ Halloween swap 2010

Altered Art Junkies have a annual Halloween swap and I've been working on mine for this year. I decided to make a box of goodies. I altered a pretty box by painting and adding a gothic looking paper witch complete with a black lace skirt accented with purple and black iridescent feathers on the lid. Inside I painted it a glossy red and added a collage of Halloween on the inner lid. Inside I'll put the contents of some cute Halloween tea towels and a canvas Halloween wall hanging I painted. I found a unfinished casket box at Michaels and painted it black, inside and out. I added a cross charm and some black polymer clay roses that I had made. Inside the casket box I will place this Halloween charm necklace I made. The charms and pendant are reversible so the wearer can choose which design they like best. The Skelly bead and the evil eye bead, I made from polymer clay. I hope who-ever my partner will be will like their Halloween box, and of course, filled with what else? Halloween candy!

AB August Challenge

For this months challenge, we were to use the theme "At the beach".
I found a picture of four vintage bathing beauties and decided to use
this as my main focus. I did a watercolor wash of blue and ocher and
while still wet sprinkled with coarse salt and let dry. This makes
a textured background. Then I added some gel medium and used
white sand to mimic drifts. Lastly I added a shell to complete the image.
I framed the sides with complementary beach/sea images.

Handmade Botanica Book

I love Graphic45's papers, and I have been itching to create something with these papers. I used the Botanical collection along with webster's pages "petite papers"(which were the perfect back drop to make this little spiral bound handmade eye candy book). Another member from my AB group had made a similar book, but mine is not as elaborate. The nature pages I used whispered: calmness; serenity and simplicity. Creativity, in any form suits the composer and makes the arrangement their own. Hope to make another using "On the Boardwalk", perhaps I can think of something with a little more flair since these papers are bawdy and vivacious. Happy altering.

I saw somewhere that you could make mini pocket books out of recycled toilet paper rolls. Hum,, I had to try! So I did and you see the result. All you do is collect four (or however many you want in your book) flatten and crease the edges with a bone folder, glue or tape one end together which makes the "pocket" ( oh, first if you want to paint them, which I did so it wouldn't look cardboardy it gives a nice finished edge inside and out). Then cover with your choice of paper, and embellish. I am doing a steampunk ATC swap and wanted to try using that theme on this. I used a book ring to hold them together and used a nice ribbon and some charms. I cut large tags to fit inside. I haven't done anything to the tags yet, but they could be used for journaling if your in to that. It felt good to get back to doing some arty projects, I've been a busy Grandma helping watch my sweet little grandson,,, so precious, but do miss my "me" time in the studio! Until next time. Wedding Album

This is Wedding album I made for my son's wedding pictures. I crafted the entire album covers using 12x12 chipboard which I painted a off white color then covered with a large embossed wedding napkin. I made it hinged and I bought 12x12 refill album pages and used the hardware that came with it to bind the pages and cover together, then covered each screw with a faux pearl. The hinge was covered with a morie' ribbon and then added a beaded trim to add a bit of color. I also used a faux pearl trim to edge the ribbon. I glued a length of organza ribbon down the middle on both front and back which will serve to "tie" or secure the album closed. I added some more beaded/sequined trim for accents and glued some coordinating roses for some romance. For the picture I used a precut matt picture frame and did the same treatment with the napkins to cover. I placed a picture in sepia tone of my son and his new wife protected by a transparency overlay. I have found a website I used to order my trims and ribbons from out of Ft. Worth Texas. Ugh! I hate when I do that! I accidentally deleted this entry when I was posting my recent Alpha Stamp Group swap. So I apologise that I am re-posting this entry. But as you can see (if you haven't seen my previous post on this subject)
my submission to the Altered Art Junkies group Valentine Card swap. These have been mailed to each participant (19 players, excluding myself). I made these "cards" from tri-folded white Lunch sized paper bags and decorated each in a Valentine theme. Each one is different , no two alike. So Happy Valentines day !

AS Masquerade Mask Swap

In honor of "Fat Tuesday" comming up, Alpha Stamps yahoo group, is hosting a masquerade mask swap. The templates for these masks were supplied and were required to use, although you could choose which of the four templates you used. (I only used two of the templates) Each mask is small enough to fit on a ATC card, but for this swap, the masks would stand on its own. You could choose your embellishments/paper, but one item you used (beside the mask template) had to be from Alpha Stamps. In turn, I will receive three masks created by a different artist. I love these swaps as I challenge myself and get inspiration from other artist as well. It is just one way I flex my artistic side.

White Christmas 2009

What a wonderful Christmas! We don't have white Christmas's around here in Oklahoma very often. A whopping 14 inches fell in a blizzard storm yesterday, stranding many travelers and even just people coming home from work. Many didn't make it home for Christmas morning with their families. Where ever you are on this Christmas, I hope you have a blessed Christmas time with your friends and family.

Piano Hinge Winter Paper bag book

This is a little paper bag book I made for a friend for Christmas. Not your usual Christmas theme, but I am always reminded of Christmas time with snow.. I started off with 4 ordinary lunch size white paper bags and cut out 4 "V's" for the tags to slide my "chop sticks" through. Then colored the bags with Ranger's color washes, in denim blue, stream and eggplant. Of course I couldn't stop there, so I added a little of LuminArts Radiant Rain shimmer mists in sky blue and the iridescent violet, even added a little of iridescent fine glitter in the mix. Let dry. Then started to work on creating the pages. I decided to definitely to stay on this blue/white/silver theme so I chose embellishments within that color scheme. I used lots of ribbon, glitter, diecuts, rub-ons and even snip its of Christmas carols to pull together the theme and give a feel of Christmas. The pages are listed in order and I decided not to post in a collage style so each page can be seen in detail and in order. (I have this compulsion for order as if otherwise something was lost in the meaning I was trying to convey on each page, I can't explain, but if you're anything like me, you'll understand...l0l). Vintage bottle snowman

While searching for some Christmas inspiration I came across last years copy of Cloth Paper Scissors, December issue, and I found it! On the cover no less, but just had to try it. I ran to some nearby antique stores in search for some vintage bottles I thought would work. Some were quite pricey, but managed to find seven for around twenty dollars. ( the artist in the magazine stated she found six for three dollars.) Guess it depends where you are and how good you are a negotiating. The most expensive bottle was marked nine dollars, but I did get it down to seven fifty. Next was a trip to a local Michaels, cupons in hand, and bought some white "Delight" air dry modeling compound for the heads, and some filler beads for the inside of the glass bottle ( I cheated and used some fluff at the bottom) I had most of the other items from my stash of goods at home. The noses are polymer clay and eyes/mouth are small brads. The "hats" are cake decorating tips, that are decorated with junk jewelry. Add some tinsel /fabric and letter charms and Ta-Da, vintage glass bottle snowman!
Oh don't forget to cover head (and wherever else you want) with glue and sprinkle with flake irridescent glitter. All in all it took me a afternoon to put them together and let dry until the next morning when I added the finishing touches and glitter. Enjoy

Altered Art Junkies Wicked Halloween Swap

Well speak o' the devil!! I just got this delivered after posting my Halloween book. This is from the Altered Art Junkies "Wicked Halloween swap" player Kathryn of KV Designs. I love them! I got this wickedly wonderful black wooden photo album that I am "dying" to add to, a vintage style Halloween jack-o-lantern pin which I am defiantly going to wear on Halloween day at work, a "Bad Blood" jar label, three different Halloween ribbons for my art projects, a Halloween ATC, a decorative pumpkin, vintage Halloween postcard, and a wooden ?cigar? box with a cool latch I can't wait to alter. Art Group Halloween Book

This is my Halloween book I made when I attended a local art group meeting. We each could pick our own style of book, I chose a blank pocket/flap book as I thought this would be fun to do. We each were asked to make six identical tags so we could swap, and have a different tag from each artist to add to our book. I don't have my tag included as I posted it in a previous posting.

This particular book is from Piggy Tales, and I purchased it last year from QVC. For those who are interested, I also know Archivers carries it. There are 10 pages in all. I tried to do something different from my dark/creepy Halloween style. So I thought I'd try a little bit of vintage/traditional layouts

I have a couple of swaps still out that are Halloween related, so when I get them, I will post those as well.

Meet, Aaron Jacob Lynch, born October 18 at 10:51 pm. 7 lbs, 5 oz; 19 1/2 inches, and one p-o'd little guy when he made his debut. Looks like the Lynch household will be busy in the future!

Halloween Tags for Swap

It's been a while since my last post, but finally got around to posting one of
my latest projects. These are Halloween tags (front and back) for a local art group I belong to. We are meeting in a couple of weeks to get together to make a Halloween book. We each had to make x amount of identical tags to swap so each member could add them to their book we will be working on.
The text on the front reads "Black Magic Woman" which is hard to see due
to the ribbon and the creepy hand charm. On the back is a recipe to make flying ointment you could apply to a broom perhaps? I hope they like them as they was fun to do. I will post my book when I get it completed.

Yesterday, I lost a dear friend of mine, who had battled cancer for two years. Susie was a
friend, daughter, mother, grandmother, nurse, artist who had a wonderful fun personality you'd love
to be around. I admired her courage and her tenacity to live her life to the fullest, while all the while
never once stopped being there for friends or family. I will miss those stamping classes and lunches
with friends who loved to get together just because. Every time I see my hydrangas bloom, I will
think of you. Goodbye, my friend, until we meet again.

Halloween sprial book

As promised, I wanted to show what I was up too while visiting my sister
in Chicago. It took a better part of the week to put this Halloween book together. It is a mixed media collage work with rubber stamping, computer aided photos/text; glitter; a lot of halloween printed paper and glue! The book itself is from making memories (last year). The book is bound with sprial wire and the covers were of chipboard. It measures 7 inches x 51/4inches. The spider webs were already on the cover. I added the spider and used distress inks to give the cover some color.
There were about 9 paper pages in this book that I decorated front and back and embellished. Whew a lot of work, but worth it I think, and now on to the next project!

Halloween Door Hanger

I've been on vacation these past few days, visiting my sister, who lives in the Chicago area.
When we get together, we always have a crafting fest! I made this little hanging witch she can hang
from her front door to celebrate the season. We had a "frightful" good time during my visit, but alas,
all good things must come to a end, it's back to home and work (ugh!) tomorrow. I will post more of our

Wicked Halloween Swap

This is a little spooky table top witches hat I made for a swap hosted by altered art junkies.
It will be just one little goodie my swap partner will receive from me for this wicked swap. The hat is made from black linen and lightly stuffed and all kinds of spooky embellishments added. It is hard to tell from the photo, but on the front is a glittery spider and a distressed hang tag that says "Hocus Pocus". It was a lot of fun, I just might have to make me one too!
