Vintage Earring Bracelets

 I've been enthralled about these vintage earring bracelets I have been seeing, so, of course, I had to set out to make my own. These are three of my first. It takes a while to collect all the different earrings, then try to compliment each into a certain style. (sorry about my poor photography skills) These are 7.5 inches long and all faux pearl and gold tone settings. I know they are big, they are from the 50's and I guess that was the style back then, but what a way to re-purpose them!  I am making some silver-tone ones and still in the collecting phase, will post when I get those done. I hope to have some in my etsy shop, so keep posted.

Alpha Stamps French Coutour postcard swap

 I haven't participated in a swap for sometime, but I love creating little dresses on dress forms, that I had to do this one. I enjoyed making these, I will espically enjoy on what I get in return!

Vintage fish broaches mixed media collage.

 I had been thinking of making something with all the vintage pieces of jewelry that I have been collecting for sometime now. I have been collecting these fish broaches for almost two years until I finally got enough to do something with. My sister loves broaches, so I thought it would be a great idea to make her something special for her birthday. Here is what I did to complete this collage. I started off with a plain canvas board which I painted a extra coat of gesso so my image transfer would adhere well. I have many digital images I use in my art and used photoshop resize the image to fit the 8x10 canvas board. I applied golden fluid matte medium to both the canvas board and the inkjet image and placed it face down on the canvas board. Using a brayer to ensure all bubbles were removed and left overnight to dry.  I think the transfer went really well, you always get some small areas which do not take as well which is easily fixed with a touch of acrylic panit mixed to match. I used my acrylics to paint in some plants to add intrest. I used some coral chips to make the collaged coral branch in the scene. Next all that was left was to arrange the broaches with backs removed and glue using E6000 and frame! I think she will love it.

 Next, I wanted something springy for my front door. I had seen a basket just filled with tulips on Pintrest and it looked elegant. That was my inspiration for my piece. I did alter that idea just a bit. I had some birds nest left over from last year and wanted to add one into the basket along with a mother bird. I found some pretty yellow tulips on sale at Michaels and I had some other spring flowers that I added to make a full arrangement. Then finished it with a sweet gingham bow . I think it looks pretty good!

Shabby Chic Birdcage

 

 

 

 Spring is in the air. I have done a few spring things to freshen up a room or two in my house. I bought a birdcage (decorative) from Hobby lobby a few weeks ago, didn't like the muckle-e-dunk brown color, so, I spray painted it a white gloss. I had this faux branch with a vine and two nest with small eggs for years and thought it would do just fine inside. I twisted it a little to get the shape I wanted and fitted it inside and had it climb up into the top. I placed some moss on the floor of the cage and sprinkled some dried and silk roses on the bottom to add color.  I found two shabby chic birds at Michaels that were perfect so I added them. I had also added some lace trim to the outside of the cage to make it more dressy.  I had watched a you tube video to make the pic of roses and other frills added to the side of the cage and tied a bow of flat lace. Industrial Chic Junque Neckace

 

  

I have collected Industrial Chic charms since they came out, and finally did something with them. I loved the look of these charms and the steampunkish feel they inspire. I used a chain link chain and leather cording which I threaded in and out of the chain links and loaded it all up with everything I had and a few other charms that I have made myself so it would truly be a one of a kind peice.  I would like to know what you think of this peice, not sure what I am going to do with this necklace, but perhaps if I get a feel that is received well, I will place this in my etsy shop for sell.   Thank you for looking and Happy spring!

Everlasting roses

 

 

 These are made of fabric and set on floral wire with milinary velvet leaves, wrapped in floral tape.  Not too difficult to make, but does take some time.I gave these to my daughter in law for Valentines.

Hello, "Grow your Blog" visitors!

Welcome to my art blog. My name is Debbie and I am a self-taught artist of various mediums.  I especially like to create in paper-arts; handmade greeting cards, mixed media collages, digital art using Photo shop, and assemblages to name a few. I also paint landscapes and make jewelry.

I started blogging in 2009 as a logical next step to expose myself and my artistic endeavors to the world.  During this time, I have been exploring how to stretch my artistic wings (and my muse) by sharing my art and participating in various online events such as this one.  I have made some art friends in the blogosphere world and I am pleased to be able to participate in Vicki's event in hopes of making new ones!

Winter in a Jar

 For my "Winter in a Jar" swap, I decided to make a frosty Fairy that uses her magic snowflake wand to change the seasons, that gives us that wonderful snowy splendor we think of as Winter. It is simply a snowy scene with frosty glistening trees on a bed of iridescent snow and the frost Fairy herself as she waves her wand over the landscape. I used velum as icicles with a hint of stickles icing. Bleached bottle brush tress, heavly frosted with snow, and faux irridescent snow. I used a Yankee candle jar, upturned and used the lid as the base, (you can still open the jar, if needed) I used photoshop to make the Fairy and she is double sided and suspended from fising line from a giant snowflake glued from the top. I decorated the outside with some irridescent snow flakes from Hero arts embellishments, and topped another giant glitter snowflake on top over the one placed on the inside. I do hope my partner will like her jar. We are to mail our swaps out by February 5, but I now know where I'll be sending mine, so I can mail anytime.  BTW, I will post what I get in return. Christmas Ornaments

Saw some of the cute fashion ornies and had to try re-create them. Made from chipboard, fabric, and feathers.  Assemble and add hanger. Ready to give or hang.

Altered cigar box

 If you haven't already guessed, my favorite holiday is HALLOWEEN! I recently participated in a class at my local stamping store to alter a cigar box. This is my design on the inside. It is a lighted (with a battery operated tea light) and a spooky grave yard scene inside, I think the light gives it that creep factor. It opens at the top to make it easier to turn off and on your light. What do you think?

My Potions and Apothecary Cabinet

 Well, I am finally finished with my apothecary cabinet that the fabulous Laura Carson has challenged those of us who wanted to create something wickedly fun for this Halloween season. I must say that it was just that, a challenge.  I started out by making my cabinet the way she taught in her video tutorial (click on Laura's button to the right to take you  to her wonderful blog for free video tutorials...there is still time to do yours!) After I got it all put together, I had a brain storm.. I totally went rouge and decided to make  mine with a Harry Potter theme, (those who know me, know that I am a big Harry Potter fan) so I had to design from scratch all my apothecary labels and books.There are all of Harry's favorite potions. Poly juice potion, Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder, Veritasserum, elixer of Life, Draught of Living Death, Felix Felicis potion, Mandrake Draught, Dried Gilley Weed, Acromantula Venom,Wolfbane Potion, Floo Powder, Pumpkin Juice, Phoenix Feathers, Skele Grow, and I just had to add eye of newt for good measure.  Next, because Hogwarts is a school for Witches and Wizards, there had to be school books. The curriculum includes, Standard Book of Spells, grade III, Advanced Potion Making, Divination, Unfogging the Future, The Dark Arts,  Herbology,and finally, a must have for every student, Hogwarts a History. If you are a true Potter fan, you will notice that my cabinet also includes a sorting Hat.  If you noticed the cat in the corner wearing
Professor McGonnagall's hat, then you'd know she was a Animagus! Every student was issued a standard school broom so that they may learn to ride it properly. I have also included Hedwig, the beloved snowy owl that Harry received on his eleventh birthday from  Hagrid. A ring of skeleton keys hangs from the cabinet to hold the many keys to some of the doors in the castle. (Who needs keys, when you can just use the spell Alohomora!) Of course I had to add one thing that Harry used when he was up to no good, and that was the Mauraders Map.
I decided to add a little lighting to give it a eerie feel by the use of some battery operated tea lights.  I hope you enjoy my little creation, and Thank you Laura for some great inspiration!
